Are lefties more talented than others?
What about left-handed people and mathematics? Are they as talented as in other branches? We explain.
Surely you've heard, at some point, that left-handed people are more "smart" than right-handed people. A study reveals the answer based on an experiment conducted in left-handed adolescents.
According to information published in a communiqué by the UNAM, in Mexico it is estimated that there are 13 million left-handed people. The fact of performing certain activities with one hand comes from a function in the brain, an organ where two hemispheres are found: left and right.
Lee: What's the difference between left-handed and right-handed brains?
The left hemisphere controls logical and analytical skills, while the right hemisphere is governed by creativity and intuition. The lefties develop more this last one.
But what about left-handed people and mathematics ?, that is, are they as talented as in other branches?
According to the El País website, an experiment was carried out with 2,3000 primary and secondary school students, who were evaluated in their left hemisphere by means of different mathematical tests.
Also, through the Edinburgh Inventory (IE) other evaluations were made where the students had to answer with what hand they preferred to do activities such as writing, drawing, throwing, brushing their teeth, among others, this in order to measure their laterality.
The general results showed that lefties are more easily able to solve complex mathematical operations, a skill that was highlighted in male participants.
When it came to uncomplicated exercises, there were no differences between left-handed and right-handed students.
