Even with the large amount of media and information in which we find ourselves involved, urban legends and myths persist. They are inherent elements of the culture. Some disappear, others emerge and others change over time.
Maintaining a critical attitude with all the data that reaches us is practically impossible. We can not always check, and phrase by sentence, yes what a person just told us is true or not. As much as we dislike it, we have to accept the fact that we always maintain a certain degree of naivety.
Other causes of urban myths and legends would be misinterpretations, confusions, double meanings and even misunderstood ironies. The double reading we can get out of a sentence is often the cause of a wrong extrapolation.
Like any other person, I have believed (and I still believe in) several myths and legends. But the curiosity has made that with time go discarding many of them when discovering that indeed they were erroneous. The myth of the lower life expectancy for being left-handed is one of them.
But this myth has some peculiar characteristics. We will leave aside the fact that the majority of left-handers (10-13% of the population) are concerned to know if we really have that quality because we will live fewer years because of it. Thing, that I do not particularly like, I do not know about others.
Over several weeks it will be our theme, be attentive that we publish in chapters ...
