MYTHS 2
Dissemination of the Myth
The truth is that I was intrigued by the origin of the myth, which already assumed that it must be multiple for a number of reasons. Curiosity, insistence and Google did the rest to find it. I have not found a single Web in Spanish rejecting the myth, nor one. And in English websites, just one of many. The grace is that for a Web that rejects the myth there are thousands of them that reaffirm it as a proven fact.
Here are some examples:
In the Spanish blogosphere. The myth that right-handers live 9 years longer than left-handers. Put as a scientific fact and as something that should be known:
Myth of Lefties in Blogosphere
On Spanish websites:
Myth of Lefties in Spanish Webs
Internet is the perfect tool to check the diffusion and apogee of a myth in a society. The radical increase of blogs increases their reliability much more, since it allows the ideas, beliefs and information of each person to be recorded in writing. Using the picaresque we save statistical studies. That while the statistics are more accurate, they are also more easily manipulated.
In the English blogosphere and webs it is more difficult to trace the myth. Among other things because it has not spread as rigidly as in the Spanish. Where the phrase "The right-handers live 9 years more than the left-handers" has been copied and disseminated in extreme. But from what I have seen, it is quite widespread in the English-speaking community although not as much as in the Spanish one.
Taking the Castilian-speaking internaut community as reference, we can say that the myth of left-handed people is at its height. It spreads day by day and yet there are no detractors. No scientific studies are shown by virtually no side, and there is no one who seriously explains that this belief is false. One of the reasons why I write this entry, apart from informing and explaining, is to try to put out (if only a little) this myth. If any reader who reads this can in turn spread it or reject the myth when those around him mention it, little by little it will be reduced. As a left-hander, I think it will be a consolation for all left-handers to know that this myth is false.
