A bit of left-handed history, of cursed geniuses ...
HOW WAS THE LEFT BEING TRANSFORMED FROM A SYMPTOM OF MENTAL AND MORAL DEFICIENCY TO A SIGN OF CREATIVITY AND MENTAL STRENGTH?

When Michael Salazar wrote that his "fourth grade teacher would force me to use my right hand to do all my work in school" and that "if he caught me using my left hand, they hit me in the head with a dictionary" He described something else than an encounter with a violent instructor; He illustrated the physical consequences of centuries of religious, scientific and social thought.
Through time and place, the left has been seen as everything from a sign of moral degeneration to a symptom of neurological deformity to an illegal act. Given the ubiquity of the general error that multiple disciplines have attributed to being left-handed, it is somewhat surprising that today experts announce that being left-handed is a sign of creativity and mental dexterity.
So what had to happen for a beating to become a "normal" response to a child's use of the left hand, and how has this changed over time?
During the next 3 weeks we will publish a small summary of very interesting data on how the image has evolved and the consideration of lefties from different aspects, religion, science and education.
