RIGHT VS. SINISTER From a physiological point of view, the body is controlled by the brain in a crossover way; therefore, in a left-handed person, the dominant cerebral hemisphere is the right one. That half has been associated a lot with creativity. However, the idea of the left-hander has been, until just yesterday in human evolution, predominantly dire. A synonym for left is "sinister", a term with negative connotations. There is talk of "getting up on the left foot" as the preamble to a bad day. "Going left" is equivalent to teasing or hurting someone. "I am right" or "to go to the right", instead, it means to act with rectitude. Someone who masters both profiles is "ambidextrous"; that is, his left is another "right hand". And this only in Spanish. In the Mundo Zurdo account it is indicated that the terms to refer to someone like that in German (links, linken), refer to someone "treacherous", "clumsy" or "alive" in its variant of "devious". In Portuguese, canhoto both means "left-handed" and "devil." Precisely, during the dark times of the Inquisition they were persecuted, imprisoned and burned at bonfires suspected of witchcraft (Joan of Arc, for example, was left-handed). Until a few decades ago, in Japan a husband could disown his wife if he discovered that she was left-handed. In fact, in that country so advanced in different aspects, it is estimated that only between 2% and 5% of the population say they have the left as a skillful hand, something totally strange compared to the rest of the world.
