It is public knowledge that medieval castles had spiral staircases as a defensive measure.

A spiral staircase rotates clockwise gives the defender a greater freedom of movement. The defender can support his left hand on the center of the ladder and go down while driving his sword with his right. This assumes that the defenders are all rights, which is a problem for those who are not, so lefties kings implemented some changes.
The FernieHirst castle is the ancestral home of the Kerr family, who trace their family tree back in the arrival of William the Conqueror British in 1066.
