How was the study done?
Twin studies have already revealed that genetics plays a role in the dominant side they use the most.
However, the details of how this dynamic works are just beginning to be better understood.

The research team turned to the UK Biobank project, a complete genetic code database of approximately 400,000 people. Just over 38,000 were left-handed.
Scientists played around detecting the genetic differences between this group and the rest, to find the DNA regions that influenced left-handers.
The study found four critical mutations.
"It tells us for the first time that the use of one hand or the other has a genetic component," Professor Gwenaëlle Douaud, one of the researchers, told BBC News.
